Pros: Variety; time to explore; instructive; well-executed Cons: One tour bus uncomfortable; big group (40+)
We were highly pleased with our Globus (Brennan) tour of China, visiting Beijing, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuzhen and Shanghai. The tour director and the three local guides were, without exception, exceptional. Unlike what we have experienced on other ...
Pros: Beautiful hotels, scenery and great travel companions. Cons: Disorganized side tours, marginal food and poorly explained activities.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about Costa Rica's culture, flora and fauna--particularly birds. The problem was that he talked for hours(literally)on the days we were on the bus; meaning from morning to afternoon when we arrived at our destination we ...
Pros: Got to see lots of wonderful things,Rome,Pisa, Florence, Verona Venice Cons: Fast paced! older hotels, tiny rooms in Venice. The exchange rate was awful!
My wife and I recently took a Brendan tour of Italy cities. We were late in arriving due to Continental Airlines delayed departure and the then missed connection in Paris. The fact that we were late deprived us of the Brendan/Globus tour directors ...
Pros: Brendan contracts with other agencies. Cons: Brendan is not concerned about the client.
Brendan bungled our tour from the beginning: double booking at airport, two couples assigned to same hotel room, misinformation on use of credit cards, not being met at the airport, substitution of a fishing boat for a cruise boat we'd booked for the Amazon, no receipt of tour vouchers as promised.
When presented with these facts, Brendan at first did not respond. They finally grudging offered us $100/person to use on another tour with them. Obviously, we are not interested in rebooking Brendan.
Pros: Nice hotels, well appointed. Good breakfast. Tour guides were knowledgeable. Cons: Hotels were not centrally located. Sightseeing tours didn't include advertised sites.
We recently booked a Brendan tour of Rome, Florence, and Venice through AAA. It included a 1/2 day sightseeing in each city with a guide. In Rome our tour was supposed to include a visit to St. Peter's, but it didn't. In Florence our tour was supposed to include a visit to the Duomo and Baptistry, but it didn't. In Venice, our "visit" to St. Mark's consisted of a walk up the aisle and walk back down, without even a pause to appreciate anything inside the cathedral. All accompanied by the whisperings of our tour guide. The worst tour ever! To say that we feel ripped off is an understatement. Our AAA travel agent has still not responded to our problems with this tour.
Pros: With the exception of some Glasgow pubs, we felt welcome everywhere we went. Cons: Glasgow is extremely anti-American, and should be taken off of the tour. Ugly, too.
In spite of arriving in London just four hours after the first terrorist bombings, and reliving some of the emotions brought on by 9/11, Brendan tours did a wonderful job in making our first trip to Great Britain an enjoyable experience. Our tour director and bus (coach) driver ensured that our needs were all met, and were very informative about the customs, history, and unique character of each area we visited. Edinbourgh was fascinating, Loch Ness was hauntingly beautiful, The Isle of Skye represents the true character of Scotland with it's rugged mountains and hardy inhabitants. By and large, the countryside of Great Britain is spectacular and, despite what I had heard to the contrary, the food is usually quite excellent.
