Left to Die/A page turner
by curious28627
Pros: Easy to read, easy to understand and follow.
Cons: You have to buy the next book to continue the story
Left to Die was the first book I have read by this particular author,  Lisa Jackson.  I found it to be entertaining, a page turner, and it definitely left me wanting more.
The characters were easy to remember as you read along. The book has many twists and turns that surprise you. I found it hard to put down and wanted to finish it quickly.  It did not start out dull and was not so complex as to get boring.
I plan to add Ms. Jackson to my list of favorite authors and find more of her books.  I think you would enjoy this book and find it very much worth your time and money.
This book has some sex and crude language so I would not recommend it for a young reader.  It fits the mystery/thriller category very well.  This book would be a great read for yourself or gift to someone who enjoys this type book.  Lisa Jackson- Left to Die is a good read and has my recommendation.
I will be sure to purchase the next book to continue this intriguing tale

Stephenie Meyer - The Twilight Saga
twilight box set
by sandraturnerx
Pros: a page flipping book set you wont be able to put down
Cons: none
A really great idea for girls from ages 12 to  200 and boys from 10 to 100. A excellent story  about a accident prone klutz who falls a lot and scraps her knees and falls in love with a really sexy vampire and falls in love with,, without expecting it.The longer you read the more hooked you will find yourself. This is only the first book. This box set also contains New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.  I love this set because it made me want to keep reading and not put it down. It made me feel young again. I really got caught up in the story. It made me feel like I wanted to be Bella in the story. A must have for all ages.

Erica Verrillo - Elissa's Quest
Great Read!
by barcomeaNew Member
Pros: Engaging plot, strong heroine, humorous.
Cons: None
Elissa's Quest was a great read! I bought it for my daughter, thinking she'd enjoy the talking animals, but we ended up reading it together. I can't say who enjoyed it more, my daughter or me! My daughter loved the slapstick humor, and I enjoyed the more subtle irony. The plot was a classic fantasy, complete with prophecy, creepy old soothsayer, and a "bad guy", the evil Khan. The writing was vivid and smooth. When Elissa was escaping across the desert from the Khan, we felt the parching heat of the sun, the stinging sand, and the panic of being lost in the dunes. We both felt relieved at Elissa's rescue by Ralph the camel. And at the final confrontation between Elissa and the Khan, we were both nervous. Elissa's Quest is a truly delightful book. I can't recommend it enough!

Jessica Valenti - He's a Stud, She's a Slut, and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know
A must read!
by hulagurlNew Member
Pros: An easy read, with a lot of information.
Cons: None.
Have you ever wondered why men and women are treated so differently for doing the same things? This is an excellent book for any woman who is trying to challenge sexist thinking. Jessica Valenti uses humor and personal experiances to connect with her readers. It is an easy read, each double standard is it's own "chapter" so it is easy to start and stop anytime. She also cites many laws and figures to back up her argument.

Jack Welch and Suzy Welch - Winning (Ganar)
Must read for any ambitious executive
by pianoman2000New Member
Pros: Practical; insightful; inspiring;
Cons: none
This book contains such a wealth of management knowledge, that I foresee myself reading it over and over for many more years.

Jack Welch  pretty much covers  all aspects of corporate business in this book -- from hiring to strategy to compensation.

The book is packed with highly practical advise that applies to a wide range of industries as well as corporations.

I would strongly recommend every manager to read this and apply some of the learnings.

This one is sure for the meritocrats!

Alan Greenspan - The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World
Inspiring and incisive...
by pianoman2000New Member
Pros:
Lots of insight and analyses
Cons: The material can get a bit dry at times.
Greenspan, to some extent, has predicted the financial crises of 2008. The title of the book is therefore very appropriate.

The book is well written and may be separated into three broad thems. First, Mr. Greenspan's personal life, including his early career as a jazz musician, and his attraction to numbers that led to his eventual career.  Throughout the book, the author gives the reader glimpses of this personal side.

The second theme is around US economic policy since the 50s or so, but with deeper analyses of causes and effects of events taking place between 70s and early 2000s. The reader will receive some uncanny insights into the working of the fed, presidential and congressional politics, and plain economic analyses, and policy.

Finally, there is a significant section on international economics, which makes very interesting reading. Key countries covered include Russia, India, and China, but other European and Latin American countries and discussed as well.

This makes very good reading and is a must for students of economics.

Debby Maugans Nakos - Small-Batch Baking: When Just Enough for 1 or 2. . . Is Just Enough!
Good enough for a family of 2
by RMoreno
Pros: good for a small family that doesn't want to get fat on baked goods!
Cons: her make-shift pans are not practical for longterm use
This book is something I bought when my husband insisted I was trying to fatten him up every time I baked.  I'm sorry...you can't make ONE cookie!

Well, now I can with this cook book.  The author teaches how to make cookies, breads, muffins, etc, from scratch on a smaller scale.  I'll be making his birthday cake using this book.

She also tells you how to make molds out of cans.  I'm not a fan of that.  I'd rather buy small loaf pans and cake molds from one of the local stores.  I wouldn't want to re-use cans too much because I think they would rust and/or lose their coating to make things stick to them.

The recipes I've tried have come out well.  I did double one of her recipes for bread.  That's something you just don't need a small batch of.

Jon Blake and David Roberts - Stinky Finger's House of Fun
Funny, original, warm-hearted read
by penderyn2000New Member
Pros: Funny, original, imaginative, warm-hearted.
Cons: Could have been longer I suppose!
A really great story with three characters kids are sure to love (except the knowall Bryan Brain maybe!).  They live in a house full of the most fabtastic rooms (such as the Attic of Horrors) and have a whole load of madcap adventures trying to escape from a siege by an army of talking pigs!  Very funny, but the relationship between Icky and Stinky is also quite poignant.
