mjhollingshead's Full Review: Sharpie 21975 Big-Barrel Highlighters eight-color ...
This set of Sanford Sharpie® Accent Tank Style Highlighters are presented in eye catching colors including: Berry, Blue, Fluorescent Green, Fluorescent Pink, Fluorescent Yellow, Orange, Red.
Sharpie® Accent Tank Style Highlighters are a set of Highlighters to use in addition to the plain old yellow which seems to prevail across the nation much of the time. Osage County First Grade use these pretty, special colors for our Language Arts work as we trace letters, say the sounds, decode words and continue our learning.
I try to use as many methods for instilling the academic needs we have into the heads of Little People. Whether we write with chalk, pencil, highlighters while using paper, or journals, or wipe off boards, or write in the air meeting the needs and learning style of each child is very important.
Sanford Sharpie® Accent Tank Style Highlighters in these –special colors- were added to the lidded, recycled baby wipe container used last term in my Osage County First Grade. This year’s class of Little People are as excited, well mannered and delighted to use the highlighters for our –treat- writing lesson during language arts instructional time as were the students who peopled the rug last term.
I not completely certain what it is about highlighters that pleases Little People so much, but whatever it is it is very evident as we get out our tub of pens. And, the joy of the child who is holding one of these super pretty colored pens during their turn is obvious by the smiles and bright eyes I see.
As a special reward every ten days or so the students and I sit in a circle on the rug, I set the highlight container in front of me, and instant anticipation circles the group. Osage County First Grade uses highlighters to carefully trace each letter comprising words in a word list. While tracing the letter we speak each sound aloud.
The only rule for usage of the pens is that WE WORK TOGETHER, the first time we use the pens is the only time a student does not listen and stay with the group; woe to he/she who rushes ahead and does not work with the group, he/she must sit out one turn and use a –gasp- pencil. We each carefully write/trace each letter and then carefully send our pen to the student on the left.
Because so many of the highlighters in the tub are yellow cries of pleasure customarily emanate from Little People when one of the other colors is their’s to use next. Of exacting convenience to students, office workers and others
Sharpie® Accent Tank Style Highlighters are a comfortable size for my arthritic little fingers to use. They provide an easy to hold grip for Osage County First Grade. Sharpie® Tank Style Highlighters with a soft, textured grip are easy hold to provide comfort and management.
The lovely colors are a real plus. I am a reader who marks up, writes in margins and highlights a lot. Whether I learned to do so in college, or I did so in college because I had already discovered that I retain more, learn more easily and forget less when I underline, make notes in the margins and highlight; I cannot say.
I did it then, and I continue today. My passion is the US Civil War era, my books all attest to the fact that highlighter is my method for remembering. As an added lesson during our highlighter tracing, I frequently have Osage County First Grade retrace some of the words we have already traced and spoken aloud.
We use a different color highlighter the second time around. The peals of surprised enchantment ringing our circle as students see the first color becoming another is one of the perks of teaching I enjoy. Before long Little People begin realizing that yellow and pink make orange, blue and yellow create green and the like.
It gets really fun when the highlighters we use are shades and tints we do not always use.
A yellow highlighter is not always just a yellow highlighter, children begin to see tints, and hues and shades and variants of colors.
A set of Sharpie® Highlighters is an excellent product for students of all ages: and the lovely colors are especially treasured by Osage County First Grade. Happy to recommend
