60 MPG commuter

by pajoe , Sep 28 '05
Pros: simple, small, low to the ground, fun to ride, great gas mileage
Cons: NOT made to impress any of your friends, abrupt clutch ( needs synthetic oil)
First off, if you are looking for a bike to impress your friends, forget the Blast. No one should buy a Blast to impress anyone, it's just not the type of bike that impresses other bike owners. We purchased a 2005 Blast for the wife because it had a low ...

Blast is a Blast!

by belladonnadust , Oct 14 '05
Pros: Small, easy to drive, and durable. Great price.
Cons: Small. An avid rider will tire of it in time.
I suck at driving motorcycles. I even took the motorcycle driving class and while I passed, I knew I sucked. I never felt more like a clumsy girl than I did while trying to learn how to drive a bike and yet, it was so much fun! I never rode a ...

I wanted to like it...

by strat81 , Oct 18 '02
Pros: Great gas mileage, low seat height
Cons: Unreliable, slow as a stone
So I got bit by the motorcycle bug earlier this year and embarked on my quest to buy a bike. Luckily a friend of mine was an experienced rider and outlined the whole procedure for me (permit, MSF course, bike). I also asked him what kind of bike to get...

Elated Buell Blast Owner's Comments

by ckgleeso , Apr 28 '03
Pros: FUN, cheap to insure, out handles most other sport bikes in the twisties.
Cons: Low HP without mods, small gas tank.
I have 3000 miles on my 2002 Blast, and I'm loving every minute of it.

This was my first bike, and I couldn't have made a better choice. The Blast is FUN, cheap to insure, and a conversation piece amongst both sportbike fans and HD...

Good bike

by soutrhernnavaj , Oct 04 '07
Pros: Great handling Inexpensive parts
Cons: factory installed rev-limiter is a killjoy Wish I could it with a fatter rear tire
I bought the Blast because I wanted a simple, elemental bike. I've ridden bikes since I was twelve, well over 30 years. It is light and nimble, it is quick enough; I'm not much for racing on public streets. It is great on twisties and I've always ...

Good learning bike.

by sculelos , Jun 08 '06
Pros: Cheap, Good learners bike, paid 2700$ got 2500$ back, gas milage, good handling.
Cons: Had faulty speed sensor, cramped, wind buffeting was tiring.
Well I had this bike as my first and it was great to learn on, besides being small and easy to manuver it was pretty good on gas milage although I still found myself hitting the reserve after about 100miles pretty good gas milage as well as the worst ...

Good Starter Bike Only

by pabucksguy , Mar 13 '07
Pros: Gas mileage, up to 55mpg!
Cons: Slow, tiny.
I owned a Buell Blast for about two years, and here is my review. First off, if you are really unsure if you want a motorcyle and just want to get the feel for it before you spend tons of money, this is the bike for you. Or, if you want to learn how ...

Buell Blast has so many safety flaws I doubt it'll be produced next year.

by saxonscot , Feb 04 '02
Pros: price
Cons: unreliable, burns oil, gears rattle & almost impossible to get into neutral
If you're a working class person who will use it for daily transportation....AVOID THIS BIKE!!! The dealerships won't even want to deal with you after the sale. I've been on the phone with Buell so many times. They'll just prolong the repairs until the ...

Rugged & Reliable
by judoka ,Feb 16 '04
Pros: Very rugged, reliable and can be controlled by a novice rider.
Cons: Harley snobs look down on Buell bikes.
Bought a used 2002 Buell Blast mainly to learn to how to ride on the street. Bike is simple, rugged, patient with beginners, and easy to maintain. Power delivery is very gradual which a beginner needs to keep from mauling him/herself and the bike handles very well. I am 6'5" and sit back just a bit on the tall seat but do not feel cramped.

There are plenty of parts to make the Blast more powerful and it responds very well top modification.

First gear clunks until the bike get about 1,000 miles and the friction zone should have a slightly wider arc.

If you are a newbie looking to learn without suddenly having a 10,000 rpm sport bike under your rear, try a Blast.

Great Naked Bike
by rhzehrung ,May 07 '05
Pros: Torquie, Depenable, Customizeable.
Cons: Low HP., Touchy Clutch, Clunky 1st Gear
I bought a HD safety course bike 3 years old with 850 miles on it. This bike had been dumped atleast twice. It still rides good and looks OK. Yes it shakes IT'S A THUMPER. The only trouble I have had with this bike is the intake vibrated loose(hey HD mechanic always use locktight)and the muffler separated from the header (it was wrecked remember). This bike now has 3000 miles on it in 1 1/2 months (in the Washington State Rain) and is running strong. Stock it does not excellerate with a sportbike but I have pulled wheelies and spun the tires on it. I average 60-65mpg.

my most useful motorcycle
by crash44 ,May 22 '04
Pros: Economy of operation, looks, easy starts.
Cons: Valve cover oil leak at about 400 miles.
I bought the Buell Blast in April 2003 as a left over 2002 model. I wanted a bike for my girlfriend to learn and ride on. Since then I have driven it a little over 2000 miles and my girlfriend has ridden it for about five miles and is not interested in pursuing it further. (She dumped it twice and scarred her elbow.)
I have taken over riding it and can say without any reservation that it is the most useful bike I have ever owned. I have had fifteen other bikes in the forty years I have been riding and currently also have a 920 Yamaha and a Triumph Legend, which is my road bike.
I routinely get sixty mpg in my jaunts around Omaha and the surrounding countryside. I trucked it out to Colorado and drove in in the mountains where it was adequate for the two lane blacktop roads.
I love the handling and willing nature of the proven but antiquated engine. The vibration you would expect on a "thumper" disappears when you get off idle and get down to the business of riding.
This bike will remain my primary means of transportation when the weather permits.

Bitter Sweet
by mike_the_bike ,May 18 '06
Pros: Nice looking, handles well, low purchase price.
Cons: Serious technology problems. Chronic issues; electrical, clutch, primary. Add Harley's infamous service - disaster.
I bought my 2000 Buell Blast in 2003. It had 3400 miles on it and it was perfect. I rode it for the next 2 years and had no problems. When I got up to about 9,000 miles the problems started. One after the other. HD's terrible service and bad technology turned this experience into a nightmare. I spent one whole year being terribly abused. The only escape was to sell it. DO NOT BUY this bike. Go Japanese. In fact, that goes for all of HD's products. There is no good reason to do business with them. Be prepared to get ripped off, lied to and played. Unfortunately, that seems to be the American way when it comes to motorcycles. Wheather or not you agree with me and like or dislike Harley / Buell, one thing is for sure, you will pay and pay and pay. Even for the same repair....over and over and over. I have the world record on the cost of a spark plug,$809.00........that's a long story and it is just the tip of the iceberg.

I hope I can get a good trade in value!!!!!!!!!!
by driven2theedge ,Jun 29 '05
Pros: **Gas Mileage** **Looks** **Price** **Great beginner bike**
Cons: --Low Seat height-- --Small gas tank-- --Single Cylinder-- --Slow (compared to other 500 cc models)--
I have recently purchased a 2002 Buell Blast 500. Two weeks have passed and I really am looking to trade it in already. I purchased the bike because I wanted a more economical way to get back and forth to work and I thought the 70 mpg Buell Blast was just the ticket. Don't get me wrong it does get great gas mileage but the bike just does not "do it" for me. It is probably the fact that it is a one cylinder engine. The vibrations that are produced at take off are just not cool for such a small bike. Also, why only put a 2.5 gallon take on it? Seems like I am filling up everytime I turn around. The good thing is that it only has 2800 miles on it and I only paid $2000.00 for it. The bike is in good condition and I hope to get out of it what I paid for it when I trade it in for a different bike. My emotions are mixed for this bike but I would lean towards a different make and model if I were looking to get one.
